Homemade Ice Cream: Maple Walnut

March 31st 2010 02:28
homemade ice cream

Homemade ice cream is a favourite summer treat of families everywhere. The only real trick to making homemade ice cream is having a good ice cream maker. I used to own a small Rival ice cream maker but it burnt out quickly, so when I bought my new Kitchen Aid stand mixer I also purchased an ice cream maker attachment from Amazon so I could continue my homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt adventure.

If you are interested in the Kitchen Aid ice cream maker attachment for your stand mixer you can read my review on my Hupage.

Kitchen Aid Ice Cream Maker Attachment

Homemade Maple Walnut Ice Cream

2 cups of light cream or half and half
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter

1/4 chopped walnuts
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon maple extract or 2tbs real maple syrup

Place first three ingredients in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Turn heat to medium. Cook while stirring constantly until the mixture just begins to bubble. Remove from heat.

Cool this mixture on the countertop or in the refrigerator. Once the mixture is cold add heavy cream, maple and vanilla extracts and stir vigorously until well mixed. Fold in the nuts. Place in freezer bowl of your ice cream maker. If you are using the Kitchen Aid stand mixture ice cream maker attachment, cream on low speed for 25 minutes. Place in freezer for another 1/2 hour to harden. For all other ice cream makers please follow your manufacturers instructions.

I love home made icecream and this recipe looks a treat! Thanks Jean.

I use my machine mainly for frozen yoghurt, but for special occassions I will do a passionfruit icecream which is delicious!
