The year of faith proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI begins on October 11, 2012 and ends on November 24, 2013. The first day is the anniversary of the opening of the second Vatican council and also the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It is a call to personal conversion.
It begin with the Synod of the new Evangelization, which will be a reflection on personal conversion, trust in the Gospel, and receiving the call to mission, in other words, to share the gospel. In the first place, it is a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and an invitation to deepen the personal relationship, and then share that faith with others.
It is an opportunity to renew the baptismal call in every moment of life. The testimony of daily life is to proclaim the gospel to the family, friends, neighbors, and society. To bear witness, Christians must be strengthened in the Eucharist and in Reconciliation.
Parish priests and ministers are encouraged to provide parishioners with opportunities to deepen their faith through retreats, special liturgies, Bible study groups, service opportunities and formation session in the catechism and the sacraments.
A series of questions and answer regarding the year of Faith are found in website of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, as well as references for resources to deepen the faith. Learn the contents of religion , and celebrate communion.
